Voice Enhancement Package at CES 2017
Las Vegas, Nevada (Jan 5, 2017) – International CES 2017, Sands Expo, Booth 51036 - Alango Technologies Ltd. (“Alango”), a leading provider of voice and audio enhancement technologies, is demonstrating its Voice Enhancement Package (“VEP”) at this international Consumer Electronics Show.
VEP is a set of software technologies comprised of a multi-microphone beamforming array and echo canceller. It enhances far-field speech pick-up and response to “barge-in” commands.
Although Automatic Speech Recognition (“ASR”) has a relatively long history, it is just now coming into its own. This is due to technological advancements and the recent interest of the general public, which has been stoked by the big industry players including Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft. This new phase represents a huge leap in the human-machine interface and has far-reaching possibilities for numerous applications including automotive, mobile, and smart home products. Even staid white goods manufacturers are waking up to the opportunities of differentiating their product from the herd by implementing speech recognition to augment the customer experience.
Alango focuses on the critical link of the speech recognition system – where human meets machine. VEP utilizes multiple microphones (N‑Mic) to enhance the voice signal before it is provided to the speech recognition engine. The purpose of VEP is to improve the “hit-rate” of the ASR and provide “barge-in” capability. Hit-rate is improved with the VEP microphone array, whereas barge-in is achieved with the VEP echo canceller. Alango’s VEP demo at CES 2017 operates on a PC with a Maya soundcard to accommodate 4 MEMS microphones. The output of Alango’s VEP is transmitted to Sensory BlueGenie for command execution. VEP can support implementations with up to 16 microphones and the software is portable to common DSP cores.
Dr. Alexander Goldin, Alango founder and CEO, said “VEP is a natural extension of Alango’s product offering, given our long and successful history in voice enhancement. In 2016 we released Alango’s 8th generation Voice Communication Package (VCP8). VCP is running in over 30 million products in the field. Within the automotive segment VCP complies with very strict automotive ITU standards as well as CarPlay, which includes Siri speech recognition. Hence, speech recognition enhancement is part of Alango’s DNA.”
